Getting to Know Ms. Odette and Girls Inc.

By: A. P. & J. S.

After School is amazing even if you have to work, work, work! But look it’s also fun!  You should come and visit our after school program and check out Girls Gazette, which is our school newspaper, and other classes like the Girls Inc. Sampler.

My partner and I interviewed the after school Program Manager Ms. Odette to find out more about Girls Inc. and the after school program at UAI.

Question: What are events that will be taking place in the next few months?
Answer: We are going to have a lot of events like Winterfest, high school and middle school basketball games, workshops on Saturdays to teach parents how to communicate better with their daughters. We also have the Intrepid Museum trip and the family celebration at the end of the year.

Question: What do you think will be the most important event?
Answer: The family celebration is a big day. It’s where you get to show your parents what you’ve done in after school all year.

Question: Who is planning these events?
Answer: Ms. Krystal is planning most of them and I’m also planning some.

Question: When are these events taking place?
Answer: Most of them are taking place in January and February and then the family celebration at the end of the year.

Question: How do you think that these events affect girl?
Answer: The girls have great new experiences.

Question: Do you know the history of Girls Inc.? If yes what is it?
Answer: Girls Inc. has been around for 100 years. It started because they wanted to teach women how to be good moms and wives. It used to be called the “girls club.” Then it changed to Girl Incorporated later when they decided they wanted to teach girls how to be strong smart and bold.
