Katsa, a 16-year-old girl, has a terrible gift, which is a “grace.” People with graces have two different color eyes. This grace can be anything from reading minds to swimming, or talents with a sword. But guess what Katsa’s grace is… the worst of all – killing.

The romance part of the book is a mystery. Katsa becomes friends with Prince Poe who is also graced. He has the power to combat fighting, but this maybe not be true.
