Betsey Johnson: Inspired by Dance

By: K.P.

Betsey Johnson was born in Connecticut. She wanted to be a dancer when she was a little girl. She loved her dance costumes which inspired her later to become a fashion designer.

Johnson moved to New York for her fashion career. She was an admirer of Andy Warhol’s pop art which inspired her clothing designs.

Some of Johnson’s top clients include celebrities like Paris Hilton and Katy Perry. Many clients of her say her clothing is “flirty, sassy, kooky, and retro with lots of color and patterns.”
Johnson has over 65 stores worldwide including locations in New York, London, Toronto, and Vancouver. According to Betsey Johnson.com, “It’s her enthusiasm, creativity, and boundless talent that has kept her at the forefront of fashion for the past 45 years.”

In addition to her popular fashion line, Johnson is a breast cancer survivor. When Geralyn wrote the book Why I Wore Lipstick: To Mastectomy, Johnson designed an accompanying t-shirt to celebrate the book with the words “Courage Nights.”

From fashion designer to breast cancer survivor, Johnson has shown she is a strong, smart, and bold woman who never, ever gives up!
