Bullying is when one person or a group of people scare or hurt someone else over and over again. Bullies often hurt others who are seen as weak or less confident.
Bullying is often done on purpose and it can happen anywhere such as at school, the park, on a sports team or even at home. Often the person being bullied has a hard time defending him or herself.
There are many ways to bully someone. Some examples include name calling, cyber bullying, and many other ways. Here are some examples of things that students may do to bully people in their class:
1. Prank phone calls.
2. Playing jokes or tricks designed to embarrass people.

3. Whispering in front of other kids to make someone feel left out.
4. Encouraging other kids to ignore or pick on a specific child.
There are many reasons bullies pick on others. Some bullies pick on other students because:
1. They are jealous of them.
2. They know the girl they are bullying will not fight back.
3. The student they are bullying seem different from them or their friends.

5. The student hit puberty earlier or later than the others.
How do girls start bullying others?
Sometimes they get a bunch of people and start to gang up on someone. Sometimes one person picks on someone and the rest stay behind and watch the “show.” Sometimes people bully other people by getting a very embarrassing video of the victim and posting it online so others can watch and make fun of him or her.
Some people say “sticks and stones might break your bones, but words can ever hurt you,” but words from bullies hurt lots of people. This is because they do not know how many other students are also being bullied each year. Some may also be so afraid of loosing their friends that they will go along with what they say and do.
If you are being bullied there are a lot of things you can do. The first thing you should do is tell a teacher, a nurse, or any trusted adult you know. This may seem like tattling, but it’s not. If you see someone else being bullied you should also tell an adult. The victim of a bully might be someone you can help protect. By telling someone about the bullying, you are protecting the victim just as if you stood up to the bully yourself.
If you are being bullied please tell a UAI school teacher or social worker or a Girls Inc. or Carrera staff member to get help.
